3 freight trains derail when Indiana collision
Officials say 3 freight trains have derailed when a collision in northwest Indiana and multiple tanker cars are burning.
Porter County Emergency Management Director Phil Griffith says no injuries are reported at the scene and every one train personnel are accounted for when the accident concerning 1:45 p.m. Friday close to Valparaiso. However, a law enforcement supply told CBS affiliate WSBT South Bend that 2 crew members were hospitalized however their injuries were thought of non-life threatening.
Griffith says one train rear-ended another, that then derailed into a 3rd train on an adjacent track.
Griffith says a county hazardous materials team is on the scene to guage whether or not there are any spills from the tankers. one or two of homes inside a half-mile of the crash have currently been evacuated as a precaution.
